It is made of layers of phyllo dough filled with chopped nuts, such as walnuts, almonds, or pistachios, and sweetened with syrup or honey.

  18. Prepare 1 cups Walnuts (crushed)
  19. Take 1 cup Pistachio (crushed)
  20. Prepare 1/2 tsp Cinnamon powder

Baklava is a Mediterranean dessert with layers of phyllo dough, nuts and honey. I've also included two authentic baklava recipes for you to try: a fancy and more involved recipe as well as a simple. Instructions to make Baklava:
  1. In a large bowl add flour, vegetable oil, egg, salt, baking powder and knead a smooth dough with water and milk mixture. And rest it for 15 minutes.
  2. Divide dough in 4 portions and make balls of each portion and further divide it into 5 balls.
  3. Cover with plastic wrap or damp cloth preventing it from drying out.
  4. Mix cornstarch and flour together in a bowl. - Dust the workplace with cornstarch mix and the roll the ball into circle. And set aside.
  5. Stack them on each other and dust each layer with cornstarch mix so they don’t stick together.
  6. Now gently roll all five layers together until they’re paper thin for about 10-12 inches in diameter.
  7. Directions For Honey Syrup
  8. In a pan heat water, add sugar, honey, cloves, lemon and mix well.
  9. Boil on medium heat until sugar is dissolved and stir continuously.
  10. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  12. In a bowl mix walnut, pistachio and cinnamon powder well.
  13. In a baking pan place 10 dough sheets on one another and butter each sheet well.
  14. Add a layer of crushed nuts, cover it with five more dough sheet and sprinkle crushed nuts on each sheet.
  15. Now cut it into diagonal shape before baking. - Bake at 160 degree for 1 hour or until the top gets golden.
  16. Remove from oven and immediately pour cooled honey syrup evenly over the hot baklava.
  17. Let it settle for 4 to 6 hours and serve.
